Long-time Cornell Hockey Association Board member, Jack Muckstadt, was named the 2024 CHA Lifetime Achievement Award winner at the 2024 Cornell Men’s Hockey team season-ending banquet.
In making the announcement, CHA Board President Scott Pesner said that the award is given to a unique few whose dedication to the Cornell men’s hockey program is beyond compare. Pesner said, “Jack is one of those handfuls. He has been a dedicated fan for many, many years, but more important is his family’s philanthropy that has helped to expand the facilities in Lynah Rink to the benefit of both the men’s and women’s hockey programs. Jack is someone whose direction we should all follow, and we’re pleased to bestow this honor on him.”
Muckstadt is the Acheson-Laibe Emeritus Professor of Engineering in the Cornell School of Operations Research and Information Engineering, and a Stephen H. Weiss Presidential Fellow.
Cornell Head Men’s Hockey Coach Mike Schafer said that Jack and his family are just great Cornellians. Schafer said, “It has been great to have a relationship with someone who has had such a great impact on so many students over many years. Jack and his wife Linda are such great hockey fans, but their children have also had a keen interest in Cornell athletics. As a head coach, I have been blessed to have such a great relationship with Jack and Linda, and our program has benefited from their generosity.”
Muckstadt has served in various capacities on the CHA Board over many years, and his sound advice has been heeded greatly. A lover of sports in general, his favorite teams are Cornell hockey, Michigan football, and the Detroit Tigers. [DW]
